Broken toe and now a bad cold? Some days you just can’t win, but you can make the best with what you have.
During my down time, I have invested some time into a new activity: Duolingo in combination with the French novel “La Vie De Rêve” by Madelaine Wickham (Sophie Kinsella). This is a well needed break from taking life so seriously, which I have been known for.
Do you have a hobby? Something that you lose track of time doing? What about trying something new that you have always wanted to do? Or revisiting an old interest to see where it leads?
Living with Bipolar is hard but it doesn’t mean we have to give up the things that bring us joy. I know for me, I had trouble with this because I thought everything I had to do needed a purpose when I fell into a depression. But looking back at past posts from my blog, I was intrigued to find how much health it brought into my life to do fun things like recipe reviews, book reviews and even curly hair reviews.
It lead me to think, can I incorporate those back into my blog while writing of coping strategies for daily bipolar life? And the answer is yes because those are examples of some of MY coping strategies for daily life. They are completely for fun and bring me joy.
You may find it enjoyable to do something completely different, maybe you like sailing or sewing. Whatever that outlet is, it is so important not to let go of what makes you come alive. This is a helpful activity that makes you feel good and gives you something to look forward to, which we all need when we are feeling low.
I know you may be thinking that when you are in a depression you don’t feel like doing anything, but when you do something that makes you feel good every day, it is possible to avoid some of the emotional crashes that happen as a result of not taking care of ourselves.
The key is to find something that truly inspires you, makes you laugh, gives your life meaning, brings health or is just fun to do. For me that is going to art galleries, watching comedy skits, spending time with my family, being active and writing in my blog. Whatever it is for you, take some time out today and do it even if it’s just for 15 . Put that timer on!
You’ve got this!
Have a beautiful day,
Lindsey
