It felt so good to do some things on my procrastination list today.
#1. Clean out my spare room closet
#2. Clean out under my bathroom sink
It took me a while, because I tend to shove things into those spaces for long periods of time before finally going through and sorting into piles what needs to go where.
I found a few things to throw in the trash, I found a few things that just needed to be put away or organized, but my absolute favourite part about cleaning out somewhere that has been abandoned for well over 3 months is the TREASURES that come along with it… Things that turn up which had been forgotten in the mess of it all.
What did I find? I found practically a whole new wardrobe of clothes (tops, dresses) that I hadn’t sorted through into my own closet yet. I found all of the things I need to begin sewing when I’m ready and now they’re neatly organized for when that time comes (It’s on my wish list!), and I found HAIR MASKS! Lots of them! Apparently in the last few months of chaos this is something I have been putting off for far too long and deep down I knew I wanted to but kept forgetting what I had because, like I said, it was a mess under my bathroom sink so I kept buying more!
So I now have a closet dedicated to sewing in my spare room, and all the items under my bathroom sink are in their proper places with the ones I want to get more use out of put in the forefront where I can SEE them! And the SPACE!!!… OH the SPACE!!!! Okay, I’m enjoying it maybe too much, but I feel like now when I open up these spaces I can actually breathe.
Checking them off my procrastination list felt less than satisfying (only two of so many!) but I sang my praises to myself and then treated myself to some leftovers of a Korean-like dish I tried last night.
Before I get side tracked on the details of that meal, I want to take a minute to think about the clutter in our minds. Over the last few days, I felt bogged down by a lot of negative thoughts. During my day I was happy and playing with my kids, laughing with my husband and texting with my best friends and life seemed good, but when I was alone, those closets of the mind with lots of Stuff in them would start pouring into my consciousness.
I found this incredible app for those who are not able to access a therapist. It’s called Wysa and it functions by AI features. Honestly, it helped me detangle so many thoughts and bring calmness where I felt anxiety or stress. With meditation guides, sleep stories, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Wysa allowed me to put my thoughts in perspective and was effective in changing my mood from feeling down to feeling warm or even motivated to tackle a previously daunting task.
And after using it for only 3 days, I was able to get back into the swing of things with my Fly Lady Routines (Fly Lady Plus App) It was freeing to deal with so much of the chaos that accumulated in my mind. The next logical thing to do was tackle that procrastination list!
Just in case you are wondering, I’m not paid to promote these apps, I have truly felt that they are useful and anything that I find that helps me out I want to pass along to those of you who come across my blog. It does not replace a Therapist’s work, but it assists with lesser issues on a day to day basis or even things that may have been bothering you for a while but you’ve never voiced. In one instance, it even helped me to surface an issue that bothered me but I couldn’t put my finger on what it was until the prompts started asking me questions and I began answering them.
But back to that Korean-like dish (I won’t say it’s Korean, because I looked at a recipe and then improvised with what I had on hand)…This recipe took about 25-30 min total. (the rice is the longest part)
1 lb of ground beef cooked in sesame oil (2 tbsp)
cauliflower florets (1 cup)
diced carrots (1 cup)
1 diced red pepper
sliced green beans (1 can)
(all in one covered pan on medium heat… don’t foget to drain the ground beef fat and stir from time to time)
Make a pot of rice (brown if you want it healthier) (follow the directions on the bag as different rices are made differently)
I then whisked soya sauce mixed with honey and then, this is the part that gets interesting, it called for a rice vinegar which I didn’t have on hand, so I substituted Apple cider vinegar poured it over the veggies and meat and it turned out wonderfully. I was so pleased with the taste. You will have to play around with the ratios for the sauce until you get it the way you like it, I probably did about 2 tsp of honey and a tsp of the apple cider vinegar. The rest was soya sauce until you get a taste you like.
I also made another enjoyable meal the other night in my slow cooker. It was simple but tasty (4 hrs with 15 min prep)
2 Chicken Breasts (skinless boneless, cubed)
two large potatoes (diced)
baby carrots (as many as you’d like in your stew)
can of corn
chicken broth
I put the veggies down first, covered them with the raw chicken, then poured enough chicken broth on to cover the veggies (I seasoned with salt, pepper and paprika), then set my slow cooker to 4 hours on high stirring half way through.
It was delicious!
Hope I’ve sent some positivity in your direction today. Gotta go pick up my kids from school now!
Happy cooking and have a beautiful day!
